20 hours and $150 later

Well….the dreaded garage sale day has come and gone. I swore 4 years ago that I would never have another. But I guess I am a glutton for punishment. Several weeks ago, when I decided that we needed to totally purge our house, I decided to have a garage sale. So I happily went about going through each room to pick out the stuff we really didn’t need. (which is really half my stuff when you think about it) I must have a lamp addiction because I found about 9 lamps I haven’t used in years.

Then the hard work came and I wasn’t so happy anymore. I had to haul all the stuff down to the basement and price it. By this time I am exhausted and a little bit cranky. Not to mention I have been staying up way too late at might watching the gymnastics on Olympics! It’s been midnight or later at least three nights this week before I went to sleep.

So Saturday comes and I haul the stuff out to the driveway, while everyone else is still sleeping I might add. I made a total of about $150. I’m not sure it was worth. That means I made about $7.50/hour.  But it is all out of my house. We loaded up what didn’t sell and went to Hannah Home. It feels good to be rid of it. Actually it makes me want to go through my house and simplify some more. This time I will just give it away!

I’m with you, Tammie! I participated in a neighborhood garage sale last month and most of the stuff I had to sell got moved right back into my garage at the end of the day. When I say “neighborhood sale”, I mean that there were 4 streets before mine that people had to “bargain hunt” before they got to my street. Most people had their cars so packed full - that they were actually trying to either sell me things or trade them for something I had. They were hot, tired, and broke before they stepped foot on my driveway. Talk about frustrating! And, I had (and still have) some good stuff, too. (sigh) My granddaughters made more money on their lemonade stand than I took in. But, now that you have set the good example — I’ll make that call to Hannah Home and they can carry away a truck load from my garage. and …my car will be thankful it can sleep inside very soon!

My daughter totally cleaned out the attic and garage last week. We have a pile of stuff to give away. No more garage sales for me. Too much work and I just about would give it to you if you just asked me. I’m a push over!
